Looking Back at FIFA World Cup 2026
The featured panel at the Red Cross Executive Breakfast was titled “When the World Comes to Town: Managing Risk at Global Scale Events.”
This time, the world had already come to town.
North Texas had recently welcomed visitors from around the globe for FIFA World Cup 2026. Hosting matches on an international stage required coordination between cities, businesses, public safety teams, nonprofits, volunteers, and many other organizations.
The speakers used the Red Cross Executive Breakfast to look back at that experience.
They discussed the roles their organizations played during the World Cup and shared lessons from managing an event of that scale.
Those experiences offered a unique perspective on what happens behind the scenes when North Texas welcomes the world.
What It Takes to Host a Global Event
Hosting FIFA World Cup matches involved much more than what fans saw inside the stadium.
Large crowds created additional demands throughout the region. Transportation, emergency response, public safety, medical resources, communication, and visitor services all had to work together.
That made collaboration essential.
The panel explored how corporate, civic, and nonprofit organizations worked together during the event to help support public safety and manage the challenges that came with hosting visitors from around the world.

Arlington Mayor Jim Ross was among the regional leaders who participated in the panel.
Arlington has extensive experience hosting major events. The city is home to professional sports venues and regularly welcomes large crowds for games, concerts, and entertainment.
FIFA World Cup 2026 took that experience to another level.
Mayor Ross and the other speakers discussed what their organizations did during the event and how different groups worked together as North Texas welcomed international visitors.
NBC5 DFW anchor and reporter Vince Sims served as emcee for the Red Cross Executive Breakfast and guided the morning program.
Bringing together voices from across North Texas helped demonstrate how many different organizations contribute when the region hosts an event on a global scale.
