TDU charges are the regulated costs associated with delivering electricity to your home. These charges can change as new rates are approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas. 4Change Energy doesn’t set TDU rates and passes applicable TDU delivery charges through to customers without markup. 4Change Energy
Why Do TDU Charges Change?
Have you noticed a change in the TDU charges on your electricity bill? It doesn’t necessarily mean your electricity plan changed.
TDU charges can change throughout the year.
A Transmission and Distribution Utility, or TDU, is the company responsible for delivering electricity to your home. Your TDU maintains the poles, wires, meters, and other infrastructure that makes electricity delivery possible.
These companies are separate from 4Change Energy, your Retail Electric Provider (REP).
TDU rates are regulated by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT). The PUCT says TDUs submit their rates monthly, and it publishes current authorized rates to help Texans understand this portion of their electricity costs.
That means TDU charges aren’t necessarily fixed for the entire length of your electricity contract.
What Are TDU Delivery Charges?
TDU delivery charges generally include two components for residential customers: a fixed charge for each billing cycle and a usage-based charge tied to the number of kilowatt-hours (kWh) you use.
That means the TDU portion of your bill can change for two reasons.
Your household may use more or less electricity, or the authorized TDU rate itself may change.
For example, 4Change Energy’s current TDU Charges page shows different fixed and per-kWh charges for Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Central, AEP North, TNMP, and Lubbock Power & Light service areas.
Those differences are important because your TDU is determined by where you live. You don’t choose your TDU the same way you choose your electricity provider.
Does 4Change Energy Set TDU Charges?
No.
4Change Energy does not determine TDU delivery rates.
These charges come from your local TDU, with rates approved through the regulatory process overseen by the PUCT. Applicable TDU delivery charges are then passed through by 4Change Energy without markup.
So, if you see your TDU charge change, it doesn’t necessarily mean 4Change Energy increased the price of your electricity.
It may simply reflect an updated TDU rate or a change in how much electricity your household used during that billing period.
Where Can I Find Current TDU Charges?
Electricity rates can already feel complicated enough. That’s why we want to make TDU charges easy to find.
4Change Energy maintains a dedicated TDU Charges & Residential Pricing page showing current delivery charges for the TDUs in our service areas. The page includes both monthly charges and usage-based charges, plus a formula that shows how TDU delivery charges are calculated.
