The heat is on… it’s time to combat high bill season!
What is high bill season, you ask? If you haven’t been living under a rock, or maybe you were and enjoying the shade, it’s about that time in Texas where the temperatures and energy usage rise. All across the state during high bill season, the temperatures go up which correlates to your A/C working harder equating to higher energy usage.
We get it. Our homes and usage is adjusting to the temperatures as well. So, let’s clear some things up so you can be ready to combat your A/C systems working harder, longer and using more energy!
- I Never Adjusted My A/C
Adjusting your A/C is a big motivator of your bills changing. But, when the temperatures rise, your A/C unit is going to work harder, and longer to reach your desired temperature. If your thermostat is set to 75 on a 95 degree day; it’s going to take LONGER and MORE energy to cool your home as compared to an 85 degree day.
Try adjusting your thermostat to be as close to the outdoor temperature as possible. It’s the easiest way to be sure your A/C unit is cooling efficiently and affordably.
- Don’t Leave the Lights or Fans On
If you’ve already replaced your interior light bulbs with cooler, efficient LED units, you’re already on your way to avoiding smaller rooms taking on more heat.
Fans only cool people, not rooms. If your family is hanging out in the den and move to the kitchen for dinner, be sure to switch that fan off and be sure any lights are turned down as well.
