At 4Change Energy, we believe in transparency and helping you understand every component of your electricity bill. One line item that often raises questions is the TDU Delivery Charge. Let’s break it down:
What Are TDU Charges?
TDU stands for Transmission and Distribution Utility. These are the companies responsible for delivering electricity from the power plants to your home. They maintain the poles, wires, and meters, and handle storm restoration and other essential services.
To cover these costs, TDUs add a monthly flat fee and a usage-based charge (per kilowatt-hour) to your bill. These charges are approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and are passed through to you without any markup.
Why Are These Charges Separated on My Bill?
We separate TDU charges on your bill to provide clarity. This way, you can see exactly what you’re paying for and understand the breakdown of your electricity costs. There are no hidden fees, and the average price you enroll on already includes your TDU charges.
How Are TDU Charges Calculated?
TDU charges consist of two components:
- Flat Monthly Charge: A fixed fee that remains the same each month.
- Usage-Based Charge: A variable fee based on the amount of electricity you use.
Because your electricity usage can vary month to month, the total TDU charges may fluctuate accordingly.
