Ahh the holidays, they seem to sneak up on us every single year. With Texans across the state preparing for Thanksgiving, it’s inevitable that we may or may not forget a couple items for the menu on Thursday. How can we blame you? You got the pie for grandma’s Thanksgiving brunch, the corn bake for mom’s early turkey dinner and for the in-law’s evening party you have… wait. Here’s our favorite super easy, super quick Thanksgiving side dish along with 24 others to keep you out of trouble!

This one comes straight out of Alton Brown’s cook book. No really, he let us write this one down last year – we swear.

All you need is 1 pound of fresh brussel sprouts, 1/2 cup of water and 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt.

Cut off the stem end of the Brussels sprouts and remove any yellowing outer leaves. Cut each Brussels sprout in half from top to bottom. Place the Brussels sprouts, water and salt into a 3 to 4-quart saucier and cover. Place over high heat and cook for 5 minutes or until tender.

We like to spice ours up with a little bit of bacon and some fresh chopped herbs like rosemary or thyme if you’ve got it. Don’t forget to toss a knob of butter in there, this is Texas after all.
